Stunning Antique Boulle Desk folder. Dimensions: 13.0" x 9.0" x 0.75" (32.8cm x 23.0cm x 1.9cm). Front board with elaborate polished brasswork inlaid into rosewood(?). Rear board covered with the original brown morocco leather. Hinge carefully repaired preserving the original gilt stamp: "Asprey 160 Bond St." Interior re-lined in fine white watered silk (moire). A well preserved example of Victorian luxury. ** "The 'Boulle' name comes from the famous Andr-Charles Boulle who was made famous for veneering furniture with marquetry of tortoiseshell, brass and pewter. Although he did not invent the technique, Boulle mastered the art of this complex marquetry and lent his name to its common name: boulle work. Boulle also specialised in floral marquetry in both stained and naturally coloured woods. *** More pictures available including some of the restoration.
